#Curriculum and Teaching

Q: Are the subject curriculums based on the curriculums of the Ministry of Education?

Our curriculums cover more than the scope of the Ministry of Education’s syllabi for the year 2019. Incorporating modern educational approaches such as STEAM while strengthening character development, the depth and breadth of the content of the students’ learning will exceed the curriculum of the Ministry of Education through the modularization of students’ learning process and the improvement of learning tools and methods.

Q: Does Guandu Hua Wen Institute provide continuity between primary and secondary education?

The institute will continue to apply for the development of junior and senior high school experimental education. In the near future, graduates from Guandu Hua Wen Institute will be able to enroll directly in our junior and senior high school. With our enriched curriculum, our students will have a significant advantage in applying for schools whether abroad or at home.

Our arts, sports and community service programs can also give our students an advantage when applying for schools.

  • Abroad: In terms of English language abilities, our students are encouraged to complete Cambridge English: Key before leaving primary school, and Cambridge English: Preliminary by the end of junior high school. For our high school students planning to apply for universities abroad, we have an International Program to help our students pursue their studies overseas.

Q: Will our students have homework assignments?

Pre-class lesson preview and after-class review are essential components of our curriculum design. Moderate amount of homework assignments allows us to evaluate and assess students’ progress. Our teachers assign homework that engages a student’s writing and thinking skills. A wide range of diverse assignments including voice and video recording makes learning interesting and fulfilling.

Corporal punishment is against our institute policy. While corporal punishment may lead to short-term compliance, studies have shown that it is ineffective over the long-term and leads to negative outcomes. There are many factors that can affect a child’s behavior and we believe they must first be identified through discussion or counseling for students to understand and improve their own behavior.

Q: How can the institute prevent bullying?

In our friendly campus environment, teachers and students respect each other and interact well. At our institute, we pay attention to each student’s character. We allow students to develop naturally, while guiding and helping them with our education system. With our support, bullying behavior is unlikely to develop. Teachers will also observe students closely and should any aggressive behavior occurred, the institute will set up a campus response team to deal with the incident and protect the children from harm.
